With the aim of giving a decisive boost to the digitalization of the water cycle, the Principality of Asturias will receive almost 25 million European funds to modernize and optimize water management systems.

The Principality will receive 24.27 million European funds from the Water Cycle Digitalization Loss to promote modernization and improvement of management systems and knowledge of regional water resources. The Minister of Ecological Transition, Industry and Economic Development, Nieves Roqueñí, offered this information during the inauguration of a monographic conference on this strategic project, in which the Secretary of State for Sustainable Development also participated. ‘Environment, Hugo Morán.
The event, attended by dozens of mayors, municipal employees and water management companies, made it possible to highlight the importance of digitizing the water cycle and the projects that will be launched in Asturias, co-financed by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR).

Water management projects
In the case of Asturias, the funds will allow the development of the following projects:
- FROM AUGA. Cycle Digitization Eau in the urban area of Avilés.
- Arrudos 100. Managed by Cadasa, the Principality and the Municipal Water Company of Gijón.
- Nora Agglomeration-Digitalization of Water.
Are Three initiatives cover the municipalities where 70% of the Asturian population lives. In addition, European resources will also facilitate the launch of a digital water platform as a regional observatory that will provide regional data and indicators, both for the resource managed by Cadasa and by small municipalities.
At the regional level, the Loss will mobilize investments amounting to nearly 35 million. The digitalization of the water cycle will make it possible, among other elements, to know in real time the water availability and identify breakdowns and losses in the distribution network.
The main objective is to plan decisions and anticipate possible adverse scenarios linked to climate change. This includes everything from intense rainfall and excess water to droughts and resulting shortages.
