Asturias requests the state of alarm and decrees the perimeter closure of Gijón, Oviedo and Avilés | BE Gijón | Today for Today Gijón

The President of the Principality has announced that they have requested the Central Executive state of alarm to be able to apply the curfew. “The decisions taken are not having positive effects. The first decision of the regional Executive has been to request the declaration of the state of alarm. “We said that we could not stand still and that drastic decisions had to be made to save lives,” said Adrián Barbón. “We return to the state of alarm. We have tried by all means since June 21 to control the situation but being the most vulnerable community in Spain, the state of alarm is the most effective response “, has explained.


Likewise, and according to the four levels established in the Interterritorial Council, Asturias is situated between level three and four. For this reason, the closing of shops at ten at night and the hotel trade at eleven o’clock have also been approved.

Perimeter confines

One of the municipalities that worries the most is Gijón. The rate per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days is above the 352 cases while the average for Asturias is 281. Gijón is the fifth council with the worst data, just behind Riosa (2045), Teverga (1,272), Villaviciosa (395) and Pravia (394). In a similar situation he finds himself Aviles with 328. Oviedo, although it has an epidemiological situation below the regional average, it is also part of the nuclei on which a perimeter closure.


Another point is the request to the Superior Court of Justice of Asturias for a legal assessment to decree the curfew between 00:00 and 06:00. Adrián Barbón has also asked for the complicity of the public.


The measures come into force at twelve o’clock this Friday.
