Asturias promotes its Camino de Santiago in Fitur | Radio Asturias

It has opened its doors at the IFEMA venue in Madrid Fitur 2020, the great tourism fair that this year turns 40. The numbers give an idea of the importance of being there, with 918 exhibitors and 11,000 companies from 165 countries and regions. And there is Asturias with a renovated stand of 692 square meters dedicated this time to promoting the Asturian itineraries of the Camino de Santiago, with an eye on attracting tourists for the celebration next year of Xacobeo 2021. The person in charge of inaugurating Fitur has been Queen Letizia who has already visited the exhibitor of the Government of the Principality.

Doña Letizia has visited after the inauguration of the Government of the Principality stand, that of her land, Asturias. It was received by President Adrián Barbón, who explained that the Asturian exhibitor is dedicated this year to the Camino de Santiago and the promotion of the region as a sustainable and intelligent destination. Thursday will be the time to listen to Barbón, who comes to Fitur for the first time as president of the Principality. It will be on the occasion of the celebration at the Asturias Day. As every year, figures will be given on the behavior of tourism during the past year 2019 in the region and the tourism strategy of the new Asturian government will be advanced for the promotion of ‘Natural Paradise’.

This year the central axis of the Asturias campaign in Fitur is the Camino de Santiago as it passes through our region. The government of the Principality has wanted to take advantage of this international tourism showcase to sell the celebration of the Xacobeo next year. In fact, the central element of the 40 presentations that companies in the sector and municipalities will make at the stand will be the road.

OTEA has presented this morning two of its initiatives aimed at attracting national and international tourism. The first related to the Camino de Santiago del Norte. It’s about the project ‘Pilgrims to the North, from Hotel to Hotel’, which has been operating for five years and which is now incorporating restaurants that will offer pilgrim menus with the best of the gastronomy of each municipality through which the road passes. While the second, already detached from the routes of the road, focuses on the festivities of the Antroxu of Asturias. Specifically, in Oviedo, Avilés, Gijón, Cangas del Narcea and Mieres, “getaways” will be offered, consisting of tourist packages that include the Antroxu Menu and accommodation to facilitate the arrival of visitors.

Until Friday the professional conferences will take place at Fitur, while the fair will be open to the general public on the weekend and Asturias will offer the usual tastings of natural cider and cheeses.
