Asturias is looking for its eleventh Gordo this Tuesday. The first prize of the Christmas Lottery has fallen to date ten times in the Principality. The first time was in Gijón in 1885. That Christmas two centuries ago, the number 45,488 invaded the city of money and happiness. Since then, El Gordo has fallen another six times in the most populated city of Asturias. In fact, it is one of the most graceful in the entire country; although the ones that have celebrated the first prize the most times are the most populated: Madrid, 80 times; Barcelona, 42; and Seville, 17. In addition to Gijón, Oviedo also appears on this list: El Gordo has fallen three times in the Asturian capital. In Llanes, Avilés and Navia, twice. And one year the Christmas Lottery draw made the inhabitants of Mieres, Pravia, Sama de Langreo and Villamayor, in Piloña, happy with the first prize.
Asturians, the seconds we spend the most
Despite the fact that Asturias is not among the most graced communities with the Christmas Lottery Jackpot, it cannot be said that we do not try. In fact, in this very special 2020, we are once again at the top of those who buy the most tickets: 95 euros each Asturian. Only Castilian and Leonese surpass us, which exceed 100 euros consigned to each inhabitant. At the other extreme, in addition to the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla, are the Balearic Islands, with just under 38 euros.
