HOUSTON (AP) – Shohei Ohtani struck out 10 during an impressive matchup with Lance McCullers Jr., but the Houston Astros woke up to the Los Angeles Angels bullpen to win 5-1 Tuesday.

Ohtani allowed one run and four hits over seven innings, in which he walked one. He solved the control problems that had plagued him at the beginning of the campaign.

The Japanese star, who also excels at batting, later moved to right field, and Cuban Yuli Gurriel homered in the eighth inning, during which Houston scored four times.

Ohtani batted second in the order and went 4-1 with two strikeouts.

McCullers (3-1) allowed three hits, including a home run by Taylor Ward. He matched his best number of the season, with nine strikeouts, in an eight-inning task, the longest start he has had this season.

He gave away a couple of tickets.

Angels reliever Aaron Slegers (2-1) walked Martin Maldonado at the start of the eighth inning, and Cuban Aledmys Diaz added a single with one out.

Alex Claudio took the mound, and Michael Brantley greeted him with a single that put Houston up 2-1.

Gurriel kept hitting a home run, when there were two outs.

For the Angels, they didn’t hit any Latin Americans.

For the Astros, Venezuelan José Altuve 4-1 with a run scored. The Cubans Aledmys Díaz 4-1, Yordan Álvarez 4-1 with a run scored, Gurriel 4-1 with a run scored and three RBIs. Puerto Ricans Carlos Correa 3-0, Maldonado 2-0.
