HOUSTON (AP) — Cristian Javier got another gem, allowing one hit over seven innings and striking out a career-high 14 in the Houston Astros’ 8-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night. Angels.
The 25-year-old Dominican pitcher made his first start since striking out 13 in seven innings in Saturday’s game against the Yankees that he shared with relievers.
Shohei Ohtani was the only Angels player to hit Javier, a solo home run with two outs in the first inning.
Javier (6-3) had no problems the rest of the game, retiring the next 19 batters before leaving the mound to a standing ovation after seven innings.
A couple of relievers completed the meeting, in which the Astros conceded a total of two hits. Houston pitchers had a total of 16 strikeouts.
Yuli Gurriel, Jake Meyers and McCormick homered for the Astros in an eight-run rout that struck starter Michael Lorenzen (6-6) in just three innings for the Astros’ fourth straight win.
For the Astros, the Venezuelan José Altuve 3-1. The Dominican Jeremy Peña 5-0, one scored. Cuban Yuli Gurriel 3-1, two runs scored, one produced. Puerto Rican Martin Maldinado 3-1.
For the Angels, the Venezuelan Luis Rengifo 3-1.
