Astronomical Society: Friday eclipse “semi-shadow” in the sky of Egypt and the Arab world lasts 4 hours

The sky of Egypt and most of the Arab world will witness the next Friday evening (15 Jumada I 1441) corresponding to January 10, 2020, a semi-shadow eclipse of the moon is the first of four this year, and it occurs two weeks after the eclipse of the sun on December 26 last and will continue for 4 and 4 hours minutes.

The astronomical society in Jeddah revealed in a report that a semi-shadow eclipse occurs when the moon crosses through the pale earth shadow region and during this type of eclipse the moon’s lighting will decrease slightly, but as its disk will remain fully lit during the duration of the eclipse, this will apply to all lunar eclipses in 2020 because it is from Semi-shadow type.

The eclipse will begin with the moon entering the semi-shadow of the earth at (5:08 pm GMT) and at this point no change will be seen in the moon’s disk lighting as it will appear as usual, followed by the arrival of the eclipse to its maximum peak at (7:10 pm GMT) ) This will be the best time to try to observe the fading brightness of the moon and in total the moon disk will remain completely lit and no change may be observed when observing with the naked eye.

Simultaneously, the moon will reach the full moon moment at 7:21 pm GMT, and this will be half-orbiting pieces around the Earth, which is the first full moon of three in the winter in the northern hemisphere.

The eclipse will end with the exit of the moon from the Earth’s semi-shadow region at 9:12 pm GMT, and a semi-shadow eclipse will follow, another of the same kind on June 6 in the sky of Egypt and the Arab world.
