Astronomers Successfully Tracked Asteroids Before They Hit Earth, Produced Loud Explosions and Flashes of Light : Okezone techno

JAKARTA – Recently, a asteroid discovered and is so close to Earth. The asteroid hit Earth at high speed.

The Hungarian astronomer, Krisztián Sárneczky, was the one who discovered it. The asteroid came into view from the Konkoly Observatory near Budapest on March 11.

It is said, the asteroid was only two hours before hitting Earth’s atmosphere. The asteroid is moving at a speed of about 11 miles per second (18.5 km/s).

Reporting from the NYPost, Thursday (17/3/2022), fortunately the asteroid is only about 3 meters in size. Thus, the asteroid is easily eroded by Earth’s atmosphere.

Until now, it is not known whether there are any remaining fragments that have not been eaten by Earth’s atmosphere. Even if there were, the fragments wouldn’t be too dangerous because of their small size.

Some residents in Iceland reported hearing loud explosions or seeing flashes of light in the sky. Perhaps it was the asteroid in question, which was burned up by Earth’s atmosphere.

Keep in mind, asteroid collisions are one of the few natural disasters that science can predict accurately and have the potential to prevent.

NASA is still studying the impact of asteroids that hit Earth by conducting many simulation experiments.

The simulation exercises typically last two days and are expected to gauge NASA’s ability to respond effectively to an asteroid threat.

It also focuses on whether agency officials can coordinate efficiently across federal, state, and local governments.
