Astronomers cheer. They have discovered a new planet. It weighs only a quarter of the country’s weight. However, the surface is apparently uninhabitable.
About four light-years from the Sun, experts have discovered a new planet. It was named Proxima and ranks among the exoplanets. So it is a planet that does not orbit the Sun, but other stars. Specifically around Proxima Centauri, which is a red dwarf (a small and relatively cold star). However, experts are enthusiastic about their discovery.
“The discovery shows that our nearest stellar neighbor is full of exciting new worlds. We are within reach of further discoveries, studies and surveys,” the portal quoted The Sun portugalského astrofyzika João Faria.
A unique space spectacle. It happens once every thousand years

Proxima d is one of the smallest exoplanets, weighing only a quarter of the Earth’s mass. In addition, it is the third exoplanet to orbit the star Proximy Centauri. Neighboring planets are called Proxima ba Proxima c.
However, according to experts, it does not look like there could be any life on the planet. It orbits too close to its star, which does not indicate the presence of water. In addition, one year on Earth would correspond to five days on Proxima d.
However, scientists believe that similar discoveries could help find extraterrestrial life. “It turns out we have the potential to reveal a population of light planets like our own. We expect them to be the most abundant in the galaxy and have the kind of life we know,” concluded scientist Pedro Figueira.
