Astronomers find the cause of Jupiter’s missing rings

SUKABUMIUPDATE.com – The planet Jupiter is known not to have rings like its neighbor gas giant planet Saturn and astronomers have found the reason for the disappearance of the rings of the largest planet in the solar system.

Launching from Suara.com, as you know, Saturn’s rings are mostly made of ice, some of which may have come from comets that are also made of ice.

The team of scientists said the reason there are no rings on Jupiter is that its moons are very large, preventing the formation of rings.

The giant planet actually has smaller rings, like Neptune and Uranus, but not as big as Saturn’s. Therefore, it is difficult to see with traditional stargazing equipment.

The team of scientists carried out computer simulations of the orbits of Jupiter and the four major moons that surround the planet, namely Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto.

“We found that Jupiter’s Galilean moon, the largest moon in our solar system, would very quickly destroy any large rings that might form,” University of California astrophysicist Stephen Kane said on Monday, as quoted by The Independent , United Kingdom (25/7)/2022).
