Astronomers Find Gold Star, Believed To Contain 65 Different Elements

LANSING – Astronomers discovered bintang far enough light in the environment Milky Way and codenamed HD 222925. However, astronomers refer to the star located near the constellation Tucana (Toucan) in the southern sky as a golden star because it is estimated to contain 65 different elements.

HD 222295 is a metal-enhanced but metal-poor r-process or nucleosynthetic process star. . But the star HD 222295 is much brighter than Sneden’s star, making it easier to observe spectroscopically.

These conditions allowed the researchers to identify 65 different elements in the star HD 222295. The number of elements is more than the sneden star which contains 53 chemical elements in it.

“This star is so unique in that it has a very high relative proportion of the chemical elements listed in the lower two-thirds of the periodic table. We even detected gold,” said Ian Roederer, an astronomer at the University of Michigan.

HD 222295 does not produce the heavy elements it contains. However, the element was produced earlier in the Universe and then dispersed into space by supernovas or kilonovas.

Then the elements were picked up in another generation of star formation, in this case by HD 222295. “These elements are created by a fast neutron capture process,” added Roederer.
