Nationalgeographic.co.id—For the first time, astronomers have found evidence of water vapor in the atmosphere of the planet’s natural satellite Jupiter, Ganymede. This water vapor is formed when ice from the moon’s surface sublimates, changing from a solid to a gas.
To be known, Ganymede is the largest natural satellite in the Solar System. Ganymede It has an average radius of 2631.2 km and a surface area of 87 million km. Bigger than Mercury and only slightly smaller than Mars.
In this study, scientists used a new dataset and archives from the United States Space Agency’s Hubble Space Telescope, NASA. The findings have been published in the prestigious astronomical journal, Nature Astronomy on July 26, 2021.
