The color of the core of Comet Bernardinelli-Bernstein, considered the largest comet ever observed, is reported to be “black to coal”.
With the help of the Hubble Space Telescope, astronomers carefully examined the interior of comet Bernardinelli-Bernstein, also known as C/2014 UN271, according to the news on NASA’s website.
In the research published in the scientific journal Astrophysical Journal Letters, it was stated that NASA astrophysicists were able to identify the bright light spot that hides the heart or core of the comet, thanks to the Hubble Space Telescope. After analyzing the data, it was reported that Bernardinelli-Bernstein’s core was observed to be 50 times larger than typical comets from the inner solar system.
It was stated that the color of Bernardinelli-Bernstein’s core, which is stated to be the largest nucleus observed so far, is “black from coal”.
On the other hand, it has been noted that Bernardinelli-Bernstein, which is 4 billion years old and is approaching the earth at a speed of 35 thousand km / h, will be more than 1.5 billion kilometers from the earth in 2031.
At this distance, which is stated to be more than the average distance between Saturn and the Sun, the comet will not be visible to the naked eye.
