Astronauts have been working to install new solar panels aboard the International Space Station, getting them ready for their third spacewalk in just over a week.

The mission was supposed to be a double spacewalk, but spacesuits and other problems hampered the astronauts’ work on June 16. As a result, the first 19 meter (63 ft) solar wing was not lifted until Sunday.
NASA added a third spacewalk on Friday to connect and open a second wing.
To avoid electrocution, Kimbrough and Pesquet must do most of their work on Earth’s night side. In this way, the station’s solar panels do not absorb sunlight or generate energy.

additional electricity
The two solar panels that SpaceX introduced earlier this month are not the size of the station’s original wings. But they generate more electricity because of new technology. NASA plans to send four more panels next year; Boeing supplies them.
This first pair will equip the space station’s oldest solar wing, which has fallen into disrepair after 20 years of continuous operation.
Kimbrough and Pesquet two months after the six-month assignment. There are two other Americans on the space station, along with a Japanese and Rosanne.
