It should be possible to spot an unusual object in the night sky through binoculars – a free-floating tool bag that slipped from astronauts Jasmin Moghbeli and Loral O’Hara during external maintenance on the International Space Station (ISS) earlier this month. The Guardian wrote about it.
On a rare all-female spacewalk, NASA astronauts repaired systems that allow the station’s solar panels to continuously rotate behind the Sun to generate electricity.

“They inadvertently lost one in the process flour with tools. Flight controllers spotted the bags on outdoor cameras. Equipment was not needed for the rest of the climb. The control center analyzed the trajectory of the bag and assessed that the risk of re-contact with the station was low, the crew on board and the space station were safe. There is no need to intervene,” she said blog after the November 1 NASA output.

The white bag with tools is surprisingly bright and in the night sky is just below the line of visibility with the naked eye – but observers should see it with the help of binoculars, reports the specialized server EarthSky. The bag should be slightly less bright than Uranus, and it will be sufficient to observe it using, for example, a NASA instrument Spot the Station find the ISS. The bag orbits the Earth roughly two to four minutes before the station, writes The Guardian.

The bag is expected to remain in orbit for several months before it descends and ends its journey in a fiery flash as it enters Earth’s atmosphere. According to EarthSky, this should happen around March 2024.
This is not the first case of an object being lost in space, or even the first lost tool bag. In 2008, astronaut Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper watched helplessly as her bag floated away while attempting to repair a damaged component on the ISS, and the incident forced NASA to change plans for the remaining spacewalks planned during the space shuttle Endeavor mission.

PEOPLE PAID BY THE STATE ARE INCREASING
In 2006, the now-deceased astronaut Piers Sellers lost a spatula while testing a heat shield repair method. He used the tool to spread a sticky substance on deliberately damaged specimens. He mourned the loss, writes the server Space.com. “That was my favorite spatula … don’t tell other spatulas that,” he said at the time.
