Astronaut Couple’s Spacewalk on ISS, Lost Toolbox and Orbiting Debris: Latest Updates

The astronaut couple is on the international space station ISS and did their first spacewalk a few weeks ago.

For six hours and 42 minutes, the duo was outside the space station performing maintenance work.

In the middle of the work, one of the astronauts happened to drop a toolbox, which slid away. The astronauts could then follow the bag with the station’s cameras.

Fortunately, the tools were not needed to complete the entertainment work.

Orbit around the earth

Relatively quickly, it was established that the risk of it coming back and damaging the station was low – and let it float away.

Now the bag travels in an orbit around the Earth in front of the ISS. In the coming months, it will probably be possible to see it from Earth with the help of binoculars. Then the Earth’s atmosphere will burn it up.

Various space debris around the Earth is nothing new. The European Space Agency believes that around 35,000 different objects are in orbit around the Earth.
