The planning group of the city of Vienna is currently working on the new vaccination plan, the office of City Councilor for Health Peter Hacker (SPÖ) told Radio Vienna. There will be details by the middle of the week. In any case, the number of vaccinations will be increased in the first quarter due to the additional vaccine.
How many AstraZeneca vaccination doses will actually be delivered to Vienna has not yet been determined. For the whole of Austria, around 344,000 cans were last expected for February. Vienna gets “a little over 21 percent” of this, as Hacker recently told “Vienna today”. That would be just over 72,000 cans. However, AstraZeneca is now delivering a little more vaccine to the EU – 40 instead of 31 million doses, which is still only half of the amount originally agreed.
Meeting with governors on Monday
The National Vaccination Board unanimously cleared the way on Sunday evening to vaccinate the AstraZeneca vaccine, which was approved in the EU on Friday. However, the National Vaccination Board did not give a recommendation for people over 65 because there is not yet sufficient data on effectiveness in this age group. However, if there are logistical problems with the use of the mRNA vaccine, the vaccine can also be given to older people, because according to the experts it is safe.
Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) and Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) announced that the decision of the National Vaccination Committee would be discussed with the provincial governors on Monday – and then the Austrian vaccination plan would be coordinated with the new framework. “This will be decided and published in the first half of the week,” it said in a statement.
