(AFP). –AstraZeneca’s covid-19 vaccine is 76% effective against symptomatic forms of the disease, announced this Wednesday, March 24, the Anglo-Swedish laboratory in a statement, after updating its data extracted from a clinical trial carried out in the United States, Peru and Chile.

AstraZeneca had pledged on Tuesday to provide recent figures to the US regulator overseeing these clinical studies within 48 hours. who had criticized the potentially “outdated” data on its covid vaccine, previously announced with an efficacy of 79% in preventing symptomatic cases.

AstraZeneca said Monday that trials in more than 32,000 people in the United States showed the vaccine is 79% effective in preventing symptomatic covid-19 and 100% effective in preventing severe forms of the disease and hospitalization, further ensuring that it does not increase the risk of blood clots.

This vaccine is cheaper and easier to store than others, but several countries temporarily suspended its use last week due to isolated cases of blood clots.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the World Health Organization (WHO) they considered it safe and effective, and the drug was re-administered in several countries, although the doubt persists in others.

The Government of Venezuela, for its part, announced to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) that it will not receive the thousands of doses from this pharmaceutical company that would arrive as part of the Covax mechanism. This is due to the reports of side effects that are in other parts of the world.
