The city’s vaccination campaign has gotten a little out of step with the Astrazeneca stop. Now the vaccine from the British-Swedish manufacturer is being administered again at the Munich vaccination center.

It’s back: the city has been using the Astrazeneca vaccine again since Friday. Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) initially stopped vaccinating on Monday. The vaccination was not without consequences in Munich.

The city had to suspend the start of vaccination for primary school and daycare staff. After all, this affected around 30,000 people who originally should have been vaccinated from Monday, March 22nd, in the Isar-Klinikum. The administration had to cancel around 1500 vaccination appointments that had already been agreed. The provisional Astrazeneca-Aus also had consequences for the pilot test initiated by the city to vaccinate in three medical practices: The test could therefore only start in two of the three originally planned practices.

On Thursday, the experts from the European Medicines Agency (EMA) gave the go-ahead. Astrazeneca may be injected again. Since Friday he has been vaccinated again in the exhibition halls in Riem, all 200 vaccination slots are booked, according to the health department. The vaccination appointments, which have been canceled since Monday, would be restarted, said another city spokesman. “Those affected automatically receive a new appointment invitation from the system.”

The staff at elementary, special and special needs schools as well as daycare centers will be vaccinated from Friday, March 26th, at the Isar Klinikum – a delay of four days from the originally planned date on Monday. Registrations are possible from Tuesday. “A corresponding information letter to the total of 30,000 entitled persons will be sent out today.”

So far, around 14,800 people in Munich have been vaccinated with Astrazeneca for the first time. About 6100 doses of the vaccine were delivered to the clinics. With a delivery on Friday, the city still has around 23,000 vaccine doses of Astrazeneca. In total – with all three vaccines – 138 100 corona vaccinations have been carried out in Munich since Thursday: In the vaccination center 68 800 first and 31 500 second vaccinations as well as 21 300 first and 16 500 second vaccinations in the homes. In addition, around 25,300 doses were given to clinics that vaccinate staff themselves.

Astrazeneca is also being used again in the districts around Munich. In the district of Freising from about next week “The stop was good,” says the local BRK district chief Albert Söhl. It was right to check the vaccine again.

Söhl announced that Astrazeneca will be used again in the vaccination center from next week. The good news: The vaccines are finally coming in larger quantities. “Whether Biontech, Moderna or Astrazeneca – we have enough of everything and can increase our capacities,” said Söhl.
