‘Aston Martin is looking for Red Bull designer Adrian Newey’

Adrian Newey switched from McLaren to Red Bull Racing in 2006. Since then he has been at the helm of the design department, where his role has changed somewhat in recent years. With Newey, the team managed to conquer eight world titles and the Brit is still seen as one of the best, if not the best, designer (s) in Formula 1.

Lawrence Stroll wants to reach the top of Formula 1 with his racing stable, which was renamed Aston Martin in 2021. With Sebastian Vettel he has an experienced champion in-house, who has to help build the team and who is also commercially interesting. The Italian The Journal of the Sport says Stroll Sr. has set his sights on Newey. The combination of Vettel and Newey was very successful in the period 2010 to 2013.

Separating Newey from Red Bull will probably be a difficult task for Stroll. But if the 61-year-old designer wants to take up a new challenge once more, Aston Martin could be an excellent opportunity for him.

The team will be racing with Mercedes engines for the next few years and the budget cap and new aerodynamic rules give the team the chance to take the dream step forward. In addition, Stroll invested more than 100 million in the construction of a completely new factory, which should contribute to Racing Point’s successful next steps. Moreover, Newey is no stranger to Aston Martin. He headed the design department responsible for the development of the Aston Martin Valkyrie, which was developed in partnership with Red Bull.

Red Bull had a dramatic weekend at Monza. According to Tom Coronel, the team needs to wake up. All this and more in the latest RacingNews365 F1 podcast.
