Aston Martin has introduced the most powerful luxury SUV

The second car in Aston Martin’s DBX range is what the brand calls “the world’s most powerful luxury SUV” in a press release. Let’s leave the debate about which head the crown belongs to later and start with the introduction of the DBX707 from the outside.

The car has a new bow with a larger radiator grille, which has double grille lines. In addition, we see a new front bumper with intake vents. At the rear we find a new spoiler and larger exhaust tailpipes in a slightly modified bumper.

Sports seats are standard in the cab, which have a “regular” DBX at an additional cost, and the controls are in dark chrome. However, there is also a completely new one – a button for selecting driving modes. According to the cars, it gives the driver “instant control of key dynamic modes” and does not force him to rummage through the touch screen menus.

But the main thing is elsewhere – under the hood. The four-liter eight-cylinder M177 from Mercedes-AMG still works here, but it has significantly more power than before – 707 hp and 900 Nm, ie 157 hp and 201 Nm more than the standard version.

Such performance gives the DBX707 a 72hp lead over the Bentley Bentayga Speed, although with a torque of 900 Nm, both cars are on an equal footing, and can therefore boast the title of the most powerful luxury SUV. However, the title of the most powerful SUV of all still holds the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, whose V8 Hellcat gives 716 horsepower and 875 Nm.

At the same time, DBX707 fuel consumption remains entirely “popular” – 14.2 l / 100 km in the combined mode according to the WLTP measurement methodology. We don’t have to add that whoever can afford to buy this car with a price of 189 thousand pounds (5.51 million crowns) will not be bothered by consumption.

But back to technology. The eight-cylinder works with a nine-speed dual-clutch transmission, whose software has been modified so that it never shifts in manual mode and always leaves the quality change to the driver. It also shifts faster – thanks to which the car accelerates to 100 in 3.3 seconds.

The air suspension, power steering system, rear self-locking differential were strengthened and the car received carbon brakes, which in addition to higher efficiency at high temperatures together save 40.5 kg of unsprung weight. The goal of all changes was smaller body tilts in corners, smaller vertical body movements through unevenness and less immersion of the bow or back during braking, respectively. acceleration.

Tobias Moers, head of the Aston Martin brand, has been told that the carmaker may follow the SUV record at the North Loop of the Nürburgring. The fastest circuit so far was the 640k Porsche Cayenne Coupé Turbo GT with a time of 7 min 38.9 s.

According to him, these are tires. “We need tires with the highest possible grip. I think they rode on corsos (Pirelli P Zero Corsa – posn. Aut.). We haven’t tried cors yet. (…) We have quite a lot of grip on standard 23-inch bracelets. We are not far from the record, “he added.
