“Aston Martin F1 Happy With Strong Relationship with Mercedes despite Outperformance”

Aston Martin F1 is happy with the current relationship, even though it currently outperforms the Mercedes F1 team with which it shares many components. Aston Martin F1 not only uses Mercedes’ F1 power unit, but also inherits the gearbox and rear suspension. His own facility is still under construction and currently uses a Mercedes wind tunnel.

Aston Martin has made a big step up in its competitiveness this year, currently sitting second in the Constructors’ Championship with 102 points, six ahead of Mercedes. But despite Aston Martin’s outperformance over Mercedes, technical director Dan Farrows says he is very happy with the components the team is receiving from Mercedes. “We’re very happy with what we’re getting,” said Dan Fallows. “The gearbox, the rear suspension and the power unit too,” he said. “As engineers, we obviously work within constraints, but so far I wish we had more than what we get from Mercedes. “I don’t think what we’re getting from Mercedes is limiting our performance. Will they prevent us from achieving the goals we want to achieve? No, absolutely. No. I think we are very happy with the relationship.” Farrows: “It’s nice not to have to worry about Mercedes parts.” Farrows added that he appreciates the quality of Mercedes parts that have helped make his life easier. “In just over a year with the team, we’ve come a long way and we’re very focused on what we’re trying to do this year,” Farrows said. “Next year, from my point of view, that aspect of the power unit and gearbox is very satisfying,” he said. “In many ways it’s very nice not to have to worry. We are very focused and then thinking about what we can achieve in 2024.”
