The new drugs for the treatment of asthma were presented on May 26, in the presence of the Director General of the Hospital and University Center (CHU) of Brazzaville, Pr Thierry Raoul Gombé, in front of an audience of doctors and professors by Dr Régis Gothard Bopaka, pulmonologist-allergist at the University Hospital.
« Once the diagnosis has been made, and we are sure that it is asthma, we must treat. So, the treatment goes through several ways. There is the goal, the means and the indications. At first, to take care of the asthma attack which is necessary, then the preventive care that we say basic treatment, and finally a severe care, necessary, in the innovation it is the allergic phenotype and the inflammatory phenotype ”, explained Dr Regis Gothard Bopaka.
“Asthma is an inflammatory disease of the bronchi; it is a multifactorial chronic disease and among the factors that trigger it, we have allergies, the environment with what is like pollution, infections “, he continued. He added that there is also eating behavior that comes into play.
For this disease, underlined the doctor, several signs indicate it, namely cough, dyspnea (breathing difficulty), difficulty breathing, chest tightness at night or on waking, etc. Other elements are also to be sought in the family, even going back to the first generation, because there is genetics that comes into play.
