Asteroid 2023 VX: Close Pass by Earth with No Impact

JAKARTA – The Center for Near Earth Object Studies (CNEOS) provides instructions that an asteroid will pass Earth at a very close distance today, on November 13 to be precise.

Even though it is said to be close, this solar system object called Asteroid 2023 VX will pass Earth at a distance of 6.6 million kilometers. With this distance, 2023 VX will not leave a mark on Earth.

This means that this asteroid will not have serious impacts such as injuring people or damaging buildings. This asteroid will not create a crater that causes serious damage.

From data from the study center belonging to the United States Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA), Asteroid 2023 VX will travel very fast, reaching 40,034 kilometers per hour. Not only is the speed fast, this asteroid is also very large.

Asteroid 2023 VX is three times the size of the Chelyabinsk Asteroid which fell in Russia in 2013, injuring 1,400 people and damaging 7,000 buildings. This asteroid is estimated to reach 50 meters or the size of an airplane.

This asteroid is included in the Apollo Near-Earth Asteroid group, which is a collection of rocks in space that cross Earth. NASA said that 2023 VX will be the first time it has passed Earth.

According to research results and NASA estimates, 2023 VX will not approach Earth in the near future. NASA hasn’t said whether 2023 VX will be visible to the naked eye, but it likely won’t be.
