Asteroid 2021 PH27 is one of the closest objects to Planet Earth. It belongs to the Atira Group and was first discovered by Scott Sheppard.

This discovery is getting attention because the asteroid’s orbital time tends to be fast. Compared to other objects or asteroids, it takes a lot of time to even go around the sun.

Caught using a DeCam imager. Through the Dark Energy Survey located the American Inner Observatory Cerro Tololo NOIR Lab.

The discovery states that this asteroid has the smallest semi-major axis. With the shortest orbital period of all asteroids this year.

Asteroid Object 2021 PH27

Launching Wikipedia that this discovery was precisely on August 13, 2021. With a diameter they are estimated to be around 1 km or the equivalent of 0.6 miles. It has an absolute magnitude between 17.7.

Getting an alternative designation i.e. v13aug1. In this observation, which is located in Chile, Scott Sheppard deliberately has time at dusk. The distance is two days after the asteroid passes through aphelion, the term for the furthest distance from the Sun, which is the center of the solar system.

Regarding the low elongation of the Sun, the search for this minor planet was finally found at apparent magnitude 19 at 37 degrees of low elongation of the Sun.

Until in the end this research decided to designate this object temporarily. The Planet Center also announced it on August 21, 2021.

Orbit Asteroid 2021 PH 27

From his latest observations stated that the orbital trajectory tends to be unstable. Sometimes it even gets off track and has the potential to collide with planets, between Mercury and Venus and then also the Sun. This estimate could occur in the next few million years with gravitational interactions for the initial step.

Asteroid 2021 PH27 reportedly takes around 113 Earth days to circle the Sun. This speed is recorded to be the fastest asteroid than ever before.

This object has an eccentricity of 0.71 with a tilt of up to 32 degrees with respect to the ecliptic. So from here, this asteroid is included in the category close to Earth or NEO.

Its path is through the planets Mercury and Venus. Using the minimum orbital intersection distance with a nominal value of 0.11 AU and 0.015 AU, respectively.

Holding Records

Asteroid 2021 PH27 set a record, with its smallest major axis. Its size is 0.46 AU and the shortest orbital period is around 114 days.

If we compare the previous asteroid with 0.56 AU and 151 days belonging to 2019 LF6. While Mercury itself comes with a semi-major axis reaching 0.39 AU and an orbital period of only 88 days.

Its location close to the sun makes its perihelion rate move up to 106 km/s or 240,000 mph. Of course this is a pretty interesting comparison.

5 Days Bow Observation

Asteroid 2021 PH27 has a fairly poor orbital quality. The uncertainty parameter is quite high, even reaching 9. So from here, to limit the uncertainty of the asteroid’s orbit approaching perihelion to enter conjunction with the Sun throughout October 2021.

If the elongation of the sun is less than 20 degrees, then this object will not be detected. Estimated visit in 2022, the orbit of uncertainty increases.

So that it eventually becomes a missing minor planet. Its current position is still closer to the Planet Venus than some other planets.

Nearest Location to the Sun

Because it has an elliptical path that exceeds Planet Mercury, of course its location is closer to the Sun. It is certain that this asteroid has a hot enough surface, even to melt a lead.

Asteroid 2021 PH27 has a temperature of around 900 degrees Fahrenheit. This means it is hotter than 500 degrees Celsius, scientists estimate.

If there is a decrease in the sun’s gravitational hole, it is the largest general relativity effect of the solar system object. Later it will manifest as a wobble in an elliptical orbit around the sun.

This observation finally opens a mystery. If this object moves behind the sun, it will reappear in 2022.

Asteroid 2021 PH27 is a pretty interesting discovery this year. Despite the news of a large asteroid that has the potential to hit Earth, it has been confirmed that the probability is quite small. (R10/HR Online)
