Asteras Tripoli faced Olympiakos and forced them to their 2nd defeat in the league (1-0) in the 9th matchday of the Super League. This was the first victory of the Arcades after 10 years…
Mendiliber made six changes to the Olympiakos line-up compared to the 11 that started in Malmö, in order to give a number of starters a breather ahead of back-to-back games in three competitions. He did not have the injured Ortega, Pirola at his disposal, he kept Mouzakiti, Velde, Doi on the bench and Ese, El Kaabi, Ciquinho and Martins on the bench.
Before the first minute was completed, Asteras almost opened the scoring but Bartolo’s header was saved by Tzolakis.
Piraeus “answered” in the 4th minute with Kostinias (shot out) and Karmos’s header just wide. New double chance for the “red and whites” with Rodinei and Costinia in the 8th minute.
Olympiacos was missing opportunities and finally… was punished. At Bartolo’s corner, the defenders kicked out, the ball went to Regis who shot, Yablonski made the projection and made it 1-0 in the 21st minute.
In the 29th minute, Tsintotas saved Kostoula’s header, in the 35th minute, Rodinei scored a goal that was disallowed for offside at the start of the period, and in the 37th minute, Tsintotas made an impressive save to keep the score 1-0 on a Karmo header.
In the 2nd half, Olympiacos continued at the same tempo with Willian all alone sending the ball out with a header. However, in the two minutes 50′-51′, Asteras missed two great opportunities for the 2-0. Initially Maceda hit the crossbar from the penalty spot and in the next phase the Italian sent the ball out all by himself. In the 53′ projection of Ese, the undefeated Tsintotas again kicked out.
Piraeus pressed a lot, leaving many defensive gaps that Asteras tried to exploit. In the 84th minute, El Kaabi’s powerful header found Tsintota’s crossbar. As if all the bad things weren’t enough for Piraeus, they also lost Yazizi with a serious knee injury…
