The Association of Teachers of San José declared itself “in conflict” after the decision of the General Directorate of Secondary Education to sanction six teachers with a six-month suspension from office for disclosing photos of them in the institution against the campaign for the plebiscite of Live without Fear in 2019.
In a statement, the union indicated that it will deepen “fighting measures” and declares itself “in permanent assembly.”
On the other hand, the union rejects “the sanctions of 180 days and 100% salary retention” of six teachers, affirming that “the principles of due process” are violated and “the clear union persecution” is demonstrated.
They also expressed their support for Professor Marcel Slamovitz, who was instructed in an investigation, with removal from office and retention of 50% of his assets.
The association expressed its “conditional support” for Slamovitz, “over whom they created a brutal smear and persecution campaign, a campaign articulated from Secondary School with political actors and the government to silence the struggles against cuts and the defense of public education.”
