This was stated on the air of Nova TV for “Hello, Bulgaria” by Assoc. Prof. Lyubomira Nikolaeva-Glomb, Head of the Virology Department at the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases.
According to her, the British strain has really established itself in our country.
“75% of those newly infected as early as 2 weeks ago have the new British strain. I expect more cases“, added Glomb.
Asked if a distance of a meter and a half is enough to protect against the British strain, the virologist explained that this is a standard requirement.
“The distance is like a spacesuit guarding them. However, there is always the possibility of the virus breaking through the defenses,” she admitted.
According to her, no more than 1,000 data are reinfected. According to her, however, in the case of repeated illness, the patient does not get the virus badly.
“I still don’t think we have a South African strain in our country. Travel is relatively limited, but it’s only a matter of time before all options come in,” he said.
“Of all the circulating variants of K-19, Nigerian is the most troubling because antibodies after illness and after vaccination have the least immunity against it.“Glomb explained.
She also gave an example of her words:
“If, for example, for a regular K-19 you need 10 antibodies to stay healthy, then for a Nigerian you need 70.”
According to her, in just 6 weeks the vaccines can be updated for the new Nigerian strain, but it takes time to see how quickly it will stimulate the production of antibodies.
