nAssiut, a governorate in Upper Egypt, is set to witness a groundbreaking development in its healthcare sector with the establishment of the frist-ever river hospital and river ambulance. This innovative initiative, spearheaded by Major General Hisham Abu Al-Nasr, Governor of Assiut, aims to strengthen health services and provide rapid rescue operations in remote areas along the Nile River.
The hospital, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, includes an intensive care room and a small operating room. This setup enables it to reach citizens in villages and islands located along the Nile, ensuring timely medical intervention. “This service allows rapid intervention in river accidents, such as accidents on tourist boats or ferries that citizens use to move between islands and beaches,” explained Major General Hisham Abu Al-Nasr.
The river hospital is not just a facility for emergency care; it also provides a range of integrated medical services.These include participation in national health initiatives such as women’s health initiatives for early detection of cancer and initiatives related to reproductive health. “These services aim to provide health care to the people of Assiut in areas that are difficult to reach by land,” the Governor confirmed.
