The Division for Climate and Environmental Physics (CEP) of the
Physics Institute, University of Bern invites applications for the position of

Ass. Prof. tenure track or Associate Professor in Climate and Environmental
Physics

in the field of Global Biogeochemical Modeling (100%)

The candidates will develop an internationally recognized research program in the study of past and
future global biogeochemical cycles using and improving biogeochemical models in coupled climate
models. Potential topics include the feedbacks between climate and biogeochemical cycles (for
example carbon and nitrogen cycles) in ocean and land ecosystems, potential tipping points in global
biogeochemical cycles and related fields.

Candidates have an outstanding track record of academic excellence in the field of modeling of global
biogeochemical cycles and have a demonstrated record in acquiring third-party funding and scientific
leadership. Future close collaboration is expected with the other groups at CEP working on climate
modeling as well as ice core and atmospheric trace gas observations. Active collaboration with other
research groups at the Oeschger Centre for Climate Research (OCCR) is also expected.

Candidates are expected to hold a PhD in Physics or a related field. The candidates are committed to
excellence in teaching and are expected to represent the field of Physics at the undergraduate level
