Joe Claridge (37), the assistant chef who was hit by celebrity chef Nick Bril in January, is finally able to speak again. This is reported by television channel ATV. Claridge remains in a very bad physical condition: the Briton lost his legs.
The Antwerp television channel ATV provided an update on Saturday on the case of Joe Claridge (37), the British assistant chef who was the victim of a dramatic accident at star restaurant The Jane on Monday January. The man was hit twice by chef Nick Bril early after a heavy New Year’s party. Claridge was placed in an induced coma, from which he woke up at the end of February. Now, more than four months after the tragedy, the Brit can speak again.
According to ATV, Claridge can talk again and does have memories of his time at The Jane. He would have said that he had a fantastic time there and learned a lot in a short time. But the consequences of the accident are dramatic. The man Joe has lost both his legs and is still in the hospital.
The circumstances of the accident remain vague. Chef Nick Bril unsuspectingly drove over Claridge with his all-terrain vehicle after the New Year’s party at The Jane. It was behind Bril’s car, but the chef did not notice that.
Despite a positive breath test – he had a blood alcohol level of 1.67 – Nick Bril still got behind the wheel of his Land Rover. According to a jogger who passed by, the star chef did not immediately call the emergency services and pretended that Claridge had had too much to drink.
He would initially explain this to the emergency services as well. And that is difficult for the family, Clardidge’s lawyer said earlier on ATV.
The lawsuit may take place this fall.
