The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the death of an assistant administrative attache at the Egyptian embassy in Sudan. The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported this on Twitter.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its staff deeply mourn the death in the line of duty of Assistant Administrative Attache of the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Khartoum, Mohammed Al-Gharawi,” the ministry said in a statement.
The Foreign Ministry clarified that Mr. al-Gharawi died on April 24, when he was walking from his house to the building of the Egyptian Embassy in Sudan to assist in the evacuation of Egyptian citizens.
The death of an employee of the Egyptian diplomatic mission was previously reported by the armed forces of Sudan. According to them, the Egyptian citizen was shot dead by the fighters of the Rapid Reaction Forces. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry initially denied reports of the death of an assistant attache.
As of April 23, clashes between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Reaction Force have killed 420 people, including 264 civilians, according to the World Health Organization. 3.7 thousand people were injured.
After the outbreak of hostilities in Sudan, the evacuation of their citizens from the country was announced, in particular, by Russia, Germany, the Netherlands, the USA, France and Switzerland. About 140 people applied to the Russian embassy with a request for evacuation. On April 23, the head of the diplomatic mission, Andrei Chernovol, said that almost all Russians who were in the combat zone in Khartoum were taken to the Russian embassy.
