Krotzer has announced that higher salaries will be paid retroactively starting in October. This will amount to around € 800,000 in the city budget each year. Next week, together with the Greens and the SPÖ, the decision on the salary package will be taken in the Graz city council.
In addition to the higher salary, nurses will be exempt from administrative assistance and additional loyalty bonuses will be introduced for long-term employees. In the long run, however, the GGZ has to rely even more on young people. Next year will likely be the year with the most retirements. The changing age pyramid affects staff more and more: “We have more and more old people, but there is a shortage of young people,” said Jörg Hohensinner, head of nursing at Albert Schweitzer Clinic. “We want to tie young people to us even more”. In the past there were around 350 young people – interns, alumni and students – in training, now they are 750 to 800, according to Hohensinner.
