The verdict for 18 of the 24 defendants in the case is thus now final.
The four main men were sentenced to death. They appealed, but the appeal has been rejected, reports Aftenbladet.
Maren Ueland from Bryne and Danish Louisa Vesterager Jespersen were found killed on a hiking trail in Toubkal National Park in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco 2018. Ueland turned 28 years old.
– I have spoken with the family’s assistance lawyer in Morocco, who confirmed that the claim the family has made is also legally binding. They thus receive compensation of just under two million Norwegian kroner, but it is doubtful whether the convicts have the ability to pay, says assistance lawyer for Maren Ueland’s relatives, Ragnar Falck Paulsen, to the newspaper.
