The Brandenburg state government is changing the criteria for assessing the corona situation. Berlin also wants to change its criteria for measures.
In future, the Brandenburg state government will no longer only include the seven-day incidence for assessing the corona situation, as the State Chancellery announced on Tuesday in Potsdam. According to this, in addition to the value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days, the occupancy of hospitals (especially intensive care units), the proportion of vaccinated people in the population and the spread of worrying virus variants are included.
The Brandenburg cabinet updated and extended the state’s corona handling ordinance by four weeks on Tuesday. The new version comes into force on Saturday and is valid up to and including September 24th.

Meanwhile, Berlin’s Governing Mayor Michael Müller (SPD) is planning to keep the Berlin Corona warning light system – but it should be further developed. He said on Tuesday that the seven-day incidence will continue to play a role – but will be weighted differently in the future.
The number of Covid patients being treated in the hospital and the utilization of the intensive care beds are additional factors. If necessary, the vaccination rate will also play a role. Müller did not say what the traffic light system should look like in the future. According to Müller, the Senate should determine in the next week when a traffic light shows green or yellow and when it changes to red.
