Assessment of Persija Jakarta’s Foreign Players in Liga 1 2023/2024

Jakarta

Persija Jakarta Coach Thomas Doll gave an assessment of five foreign players in four matches Liga 1 2023/2024. He is confident in their quality.

Four new foreign players were brought in Persija Jakarta in climbing the struggle in League 1 2023/2024. They are Ryo Matsumura (Japan), Marko Simic (Croatia), Maciej Gajos (Poland), and Oliver Bias (Philippines), who followed Ondrej Kudela (Czech).

According to Thomas Doll, some of the new players among the four imported names that just arrived needed time to adapt. Oliver Bias, for example, who was the last to join, will need time to prepare physically before finally joining the squad.

The Filipino passport player was not included in the squad in the last match Persija Jakarta. There was no Oliver Bias name when Persija was hosted by Persita Tangerang in the match at Indomilk Arena, Saturday (22/7/2023).

“Actually, I think it’s too soon to judge all of them. Especially Oliver (Bias) who has just joined. I think he needs time to really be ready,” said Thomas Doll in his statement.

“Now he will be with Paul Keenan (physical trainer) to strengthen his physique first. Maybe for a start he will come on as a substitute,” he added.

While Marko Simic was assessed Thomas Doll can help Persian in terms of scoring goals. The German coach added that the most important thing for Simic was playing time, where until the fourth week the striker had made two appearances by collecting two goals.

“Of course it’s important for Marko to be able to play again because in the last two years he hasn’t played too much. Under these conditions it’s not easy because he played less minutes when he joined this team,” said Thomas Doll.

“But after he scored another goal against Bhayangkara FC (16/7/2023), his feeling to score goals started to come back,” he said.

Then foreign player from Japan Ryo Matsumura became the player who received the most praise. Ryo regularly appears with Persija this season.

“He already had experience with Persis before. So he already understands a lot about football here. He can play in various positions and so far, he has played quite well with Riko (Simanjuntak) on the front lines,” said the former Borussia Dortmund coach.

Then the midfielder from Poland who has played two matches, Maciej Gajos, is considered a player who has experience. Thomas believes Gajos can go through his adaptation period well.

“He is a midfielder who likes to play in attack. But he also needs time to recognize everything here. Maciej (Gajos) has played twice, but I have to keep monitoring him how he reacts in every training session. But I’m sure he can pass it well,” said Thomas Doll.

“So I emphasize that this team needs a little more time to really be able to unite into a solid team. We are really trying hard for that,” he said again.
