An internal assessment of the agency blamed the US Secret Service for the July 13 shooting of former President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania. The investigation found that modern technology was not used to ensure Trump’s security.
The report accuses the attacker of not trying to track him down using modern technology when he flew a drone over the rally The attacker’s presence could have been identified a few hours before the shooting. But the Secret Service didn’t try.
The Secret Service’s advanced team did not interact sufficiently with state and local law enforcement. Police spies were not posted on nearby rooftops. The attacker fired from there, Secret Service Director Kimberly Chiattle resigned after a congressional hearing.
On Friday, Acting Director Ronald Rove said there was “uncertainty” in the Secret Service’s preparations ahead of the Trump rally. Moments before Trump was shot, some saw the assailant climbing to the top of a nearby building. They called the police. But the police did not contact the Secret Service.

After the shooting, the Secret Service provided more security than would be legally possible for someone in Trump’s position. On Sunday, an armed man was arrested at Trump’s golf course in Florida.
The FBI says Ryan Routh came from Hawaii for the attempted murder.
A bill was passed to increase security
The US House on Friday approved a bill to increase Secret Service security for presidential and vice presidential candidates. No one was against the bill, which was supported by 405 members.
It is not clear whether the bill will be blocked in the Senate. If approved by the Senate, it will become law when President Biden signs it.
