It was Aspe’s widow, Tamara Hangeraaf, who presented the book today in the Gothic room of the Bruges town hall, a place that had great significance for Pierre Haspeslag, as Aspe was officially called. “A lot of his stories took place here”, says an emotional Hanegraaf, “but it is also the place where we got married. This is where it started for us and here we end again.”
Remarkable: the ink used for the first 25,000 copies of the book contains ashes from the deceased author. “He himself wanted it that way,” says his widow. He thought that was a nice keepsake for his fans, almost literally, to leave a piece of himself for them.”
