The return of Ligue 2 is approaching. While the Saint-Etienne and the Niortais are fine-tuning the final details of their preparation for the final sprint, the Federation has communicated the arbitration appointments for the 29th day of the championship. The Greens will find a referee they discovered this season!
The FFF communicated this Wednesday the arbitration designations for the resumption of Ligue 2, Saturday April 1. The Greens, who will receive the Chamois Niortais at 3 p.m. at the start of this 30th day, will find a referee with whom they have had very little contact.
Indeed, Mr. Faouzi Benchabane, promoted this season in D2, has been appointed center referee for this meeting between the 12th and 20th in the championship, which will take place in Geoffroy-Guichard!
A referee known to both teams!
Mr Benchabane has officiated as central referee 16 times this season in Ligue 2, and once in the Coupe de France, at Geoffroy-Guichard during the elimination of ASSE on penalties against Rodez. 3 yellow cards had been distributed by the referee.
But this is not the only time this season that the Greens have crossed paths with Faouzi Benchabane this season. Indeed, the 33-year-old referee also refereed the Greens once in the league this season, it was during Annecy – ASSE last December. The Greens had lost 2 goals to 1, 6 yellow cards had been distributed.

If the Greens therefore know this referee, this is also the case for the Chamois Niortais. This season, Faouzi Benchabane has refereed 2 games between the Niortais and Valenciennes (0-1 defeat) and Rodez (1-1).
But in reality, the people of Niort and Mr Benchabane have known each other for several years. Indeed, they had already met 4 times in Ligue 2 during the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 seasons. A positive balance at the time since Niort had won 3 of the 4 matches and hung 1 draw.
During the 17 games refereed (all competitions combined), Mr. Faouzi Benchabane issued 65 yellow cards, 2 second warnings and 1 direct red card.
