AS Saint-Etienne has just made official on social networks the extension of Gaëtan Charbonnier until 2024. Good news for a club which is about to lose its attacking leader of the past season, Jean-Philippe Krasso. Negotiations took a little time with the 34-year-old striker because if he received a big salary during his six months of freelancing, the Saint-Etienne leaders would have offered him half as much to extend.
He had an immediate contribution
Arrived on December 16 in Forez at a time when ASSE was last in Ligue 2, Charbonnier had an immediate impact on the results. He equalized in stoppage time against Caen (1-1) on December 30 and probably saved the header from Laurent Batlles. On January 16, he also gave victory to his team in the last moments in Niort (1-0). If he only played 7 matches (for 3 goals scored), his contribution was therefore decisive, justifying this extension.

To sum up
Author of a very promising debut with ASSE, where he arrived on December 16, Gaëtan Charbonnier had the misfortune to seriously injure his knee two months later. Despite everything, the 34-year-old striker has just extended until 2024.
