Masjidil Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, has been hit by several incidents of assault that led to arrests in recent times. The latest incident involved a man dressed in ihram who attempted to attack a Friday prayer preacher who was preaching at the pulpit.
As reported Arab News and Saudi Gazette, Saturday (22/5/2021), a similar assault incident occurred in March, when a man was arrested after pointing a knife on the first floor of the Grand Mosque. This man was arrested by the Haram Security Forces after the Asar prayer on March 30.
Mentioned the Police Mecca in his statement at the time that the man was detected carrying a knife and shouting slogans in favor of terrorist groups and organizations.
The Makkah Police said “legal steps were being taken against him” without giving further details.
Another incident occurred in October 2020, when a car crashed into one of the gates of the Grand Mosque which had sparked public concern.
The sources were quoted by local Saudi media and reported Gulf Today said the car was driven by an unnamed Saudi man. The man was immediately arrested at the scene.
The spokesman for the Mecca authorities, Sultan Al Dosari, said that the car hit one of the entrance gates to the Grand Mosque. Investigations revealed that the car lost control before crashing into the gate. It also stated that the Saudi man was put on trial in connection with this incident.
