Ubisoft was still 8 months away from officially announcing Assassin’s Creed Mirage when Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier revealed the game’s existence by claiming that it started out as an expansion to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Obviously, this would make many question the game’s price tag, so it’s not surprising that this detail has been left out of the marketing campaign… until now.
As part of Game Informer’s new cover story confirms Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s creative director, Stephane Boudon, that the game was to be the DLC for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla that brought Eivor to the Middle East. This idea was so well received that Ubisoft decided to make it a standalone game instead:
“It’s funny, because we did all the work on the pitch for a DLC, but in the end we already saw during the work on the pitch that it could be something, so we ended the presentation with: “But there can be more.” So we pushed a little, and it worked and was wonderful for everyone.”
Do you think Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s more linear, 20-30 hour campaign sounds more compelling, or should they stick with the massive open world/RPG formula?
