Assassin’s Creed Hex: A Shift to the Distant Future? Insights from Unused Cutscene and Dialogue

Although we consider the Assassin’s Creed series to be historical, we must not forget the fact that the original, albeit largely ignored in the last installments, is closely connected to the current events. All the stories of specific characters are just a reflection of memories passed down to descendants through generations and mediated by Anim, thanks to which we could break out of the period setting in some works and at least for a while follow the line around Desmond Miles or his father William Miles. Now it seems that the developers at Ubisoft seem to want to revive this line and give players more of the modern background, which is supposed to be indicated by an unused subtitle scene that was supposed to be ready for Assassin’s Creed Mirage. It was discovered in the game’s data by an insider acting under the nickname Sliderv2 and was able to piece together not only the cutscene itself, but also the dialogue, revealing information about some kind of big change and mainly the shift of the modern line far into the future.

In the video that the insider shared a few days ago, the first thing you can see is a modern antenna placed somewhere in the desert outside of Baghdad. Just the fact that something from “our” world appears in the historical setting is unusual, and the resulting dialogue is similarly unusual. Sliderv2 himself points out that he was marked as “PostCredits_ACNeoTease” in the game data, which suggests that the developers wanted to use him to tease the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Hexe, which was previously known as Assassin’s Creed Neo. Regarding the content of the dialogue, we warn against possible spoilers, even if it is not clearly clear from them how the developers think about the whole matter and what exactly they are referring to.

The dialogue takes place between two Anim operators, who are both amazed at the fact that the antenna in question appears in their memories. The first of the operators did not notice it even during the three years he spent working on Basim’s memories, but both agree that the DNA from which the memories come is literally a gold mine of information. Then comes the shock that it comes from kind of William Miles – one of the last mentors of the assassin before the big change – but one of the operators is not able to recall it immediately. At this point, it is revealed that the dialogue at Anim takes place in the distant future, because the 21st century, which the operator points to with reference to William Miles, is, according to the other operator, a very distant past. In the end, the operators agree that there are many interesting samples of memories connected to Miles and end the conversation by meeting in the kitchen for coffee.

But what does this mean for Assassin’s Creed Hex, or the whole series? Players are convinced that they are watching an attempt to restart a modern line, which has never been very popular, and therefore the discussants under the video and in the discussions are a little skeptical. However, the move to the distant future could really allow the developers to leave Desmond and William and bring someone completely new to the scene, who would perhaps not lag behind the main historical heroes of the individual parts in terms of character and processing. That’s always been the biggest problem, along with the strangely presented events from the present, which, for example, at the end of Assassin’s Creed 3 felt very convulsive. But we don’t know anything else, i.e. not even the reason why the developers decided not to use this cutscene or dialogue in the end, although given the roughness and lack of tuning of the whole scene, it seems that the decision was not made at the last minute.
