The next installment of Assassin’s Creed is less than a month away from its release. By moving its release date, Ubisoft previously outlined that Mirage will not be released on the 12th, but on the 5th of October, when there is not so much competition and it can fully utilize the potential of the new title. However, even if that is the case, there are still more upcoming installments waiting for us. Among them, we include two in particular that Ubisoft officially presented to us last year – namely Codename Red and Codename Hexe. The first of them was already described by Tom Henderson, who wrote about the setting and release of the title. Now it’s happening again, and we’re hearing from an insider about the release plans and the possible origins of the characters.
Insider Tom Henderson came up with more details about Assassin’s Creed from JapanThe so-called Codename Red is officially expected to arrive in early 2024 and could potentially be released by the end of the same yearAt the moment, the game is said to be fully playable, but there is a threat that it will be delayedBoth the reveal and release may come as early as next year
In his new report, Henderson claims that Assassin’s Creed: Codename Red is already in a fully playable state and that we will know more details in early 2024. He previously mentioned that the game will be released sometime in 2024, when he now adds a time window . According to his current contacts at Ubisoft, the game will potentially be released sometime in the pre-Christmas season of next year, although this is not certain.
At the same time, the insider strongly warns that everything can change drastically. After all, he himself makes it clear that despite the detailed planning of the games, Ubisoft continues to tend to postpone most of the games, and thus Codename Red may also experience a similar postponement.
Both playable characters will offer different play styles
Henderson went on to repeat some of the things he had said earlier. The first and probably the most fundamental game described by us are the playable characters – namely the character of a male samurai, who is supposed to be an African refugee by origin, and a (female) kunoichi, who in turn is similar to ninjas in the crowd of the fairer sex. According to Henderson, both of these characters should be equipped with their own set of weapons and abilities, where, for example, the kunoichi will be able to recognize her agility.
Henderson also adds that the game will borrow some stealth elements in the gameplay, which will go beyond ordinary sneaking. According to his information, these stealth elements should also come from the Splinter Cell series, when he himself specifies what we can probably expect.
In his text, he states that players will be able to, for example, use shadows in the game to hide from the eyes of enemies, or extinguish torches to remain hidden. On top of that, he adds that, following the example of previous parts, the option to hide bodies will also be available. As we progress, we will get more different tools.
It is not yet certain whether the characters have a real basis
As for pure speculation, which Henderson no longer directly confirms, but only mentions as a real possibility for now, the topic here is where the inspiration for the male character came from. Henderson says that while his sources have yet to point to any of this, fans believe the samurai has a real-life design. Their reasoning is that this character has, more or less, a basis in the existing character of Jasuke – that is, the persona of the first African samurai who served in Japan around 1500.
According to available information, which Henderson cites from the book African Samurai: The True Story of Yasuke, Yasuke was a skilled close combat warrior. As part of his stay in Japan, he was supposed to be employed as a hired muscleman there, as missionaries were not allowed to own weapons. Therefore, if the fan assumption that Ubisoft was inspired by him for the character is correct, it is believed that he can also fulfill a similar role in the game – that is, the role of a wounded man.
Analogously to other games that abound with a pair of playable characters (such as AC: Syndicate), it is thus possible that here too the samurai will be the archetype of a heavy-duty fighter, while the kunoichi is an example of an agile and silent assassin.
