Assassin’s Creed Codename Red: New Game Revealed with Samurai and Ninja Protagonists

The release of Assassin’s Creed Mirage is behind us, the VR Nexus will arrive in less than a month, and the mobile Jade set in China is coming. But as we know very well, Ubisoft has big plans for the Assassin’s Creed series, and it certainly doesn’t end with these games. Of those announced, we can expect Hexe in the future, as well as a title codenamed Red set in Japan. It was officially announced with more games in 2022, but we don’t know much from official sources so far. However, behind-the-scenes information appears regularly, and insider Tom Henderson does not keep new knowledge to himself. This time, however, we got a small piece from the official sites in the form of an image, which seems to depict one of the main characters of the new game.

As Henderson reported earlier, Codename Red is supposed to have two protagonists – a samurai and a shinobi/ninja. The samurai is said to be an African refugee, with speculation swirling that he could be modeled after an actual historical figure of the name. The second character is supposed to be a ninja warrior (kunoichi), for whom it is not yet known whether she could also have a role model in reality. However, we can now most likely see this female protagonist in a picture that appeared on the LinkedIn network. Senior writer Pierre Boudreau from Ubisoft, who according to the information on his profile is working on Codename Red, uploaded this image to your profile as a banner. On the available cut-out, which certainly does not lack the color red, we can see a female figure in a hood and with flowing hair, holding a sword in her hand, probably a ninja. In addition to the building in the background, the typical logo of the series in its new form cannot be overlooked.

Later, however, the French also spoke insider j0nathan, which is considered trustworthy when it comes to Assassin’s Creed and Ubisoft, and we’ve cited it here repeatedly. According to his information, the heroine’s name is Naoé or Naoi, and this name should most likely be written in Japanese in katakana – “ナオエ” – in the image just below the logo. However, he cautioned that the name may change just like it did with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. He also brought some information about the story, with hers being slightly similar to Bayek’s from Assassin’s Creed Origins. j0nathan writes that her father is killed by a member of the order, and therefore Naoé embarks on a journey of revenge that will lead her to the shinobi.

The fact is, even after several hours and its spread across the Internet, the image remains in place, so it’s impossible to say for sure if Boudreau revealed something he shouldn’t have. For us, however, this is another interesting look at the game and its approach. Although we don’t know anything more at this point, it can’t be ruled out that there could potentially be a closer introduction of the game. Recall that, according to Henderson, Codename Red is already fully playable and that if there is no delay, the title could arrive at the end of 2024, something that Ubisoft itself previously mentioned.
