Assassination of Samuel Paty. The student’s parent remains in prison

The parent of student Brahim C, indicted Wednesday for “Complicity in terrorist assassination” in the investigation the death of teacher Samuel Paty at Conflans-Sainte-Honorine (Yvelines), has been remanded in custody this Friday, October 23, we learned from the national anti-terrorism prosecution and its lawyer.

The 48-year-old father, who had posted two videos calling for mobilization against the teacher, had been imprisoned on Wednesday pending a debate before the judge of freedoms and detention (JLD) who is held this Friday afternoon at the Paris court.

He was arrested on Saturday, October 17 at dawn, the day after the murder of Samuel Paty, 47 years old, by a refugee of Chechen Russian origin, Abdullakh Anzorov. The 18-year-old assailant was gunned down by police after claiming responsibility for his attack on social media.

“He has complete confidence in justice so that the truth may come out”

“He is absolutely stunned by the horror of crime, like all French people”, Brahim C’s lawyer said before the hearing.

The investigations revealed that the young terrorist had contacted the father of the family and that they had had exchanges, after the publication of the videos in which the latter accused the professor of « discrimination » towards Muslim college students.

“He did not know who Anzorov was, just like the hundreds of anonymous people who contacted him from all over France and even from abroad to show him their support. He has complete confidence in justice so that the truth will come out ”, added Me El Ouchikli.

Five people incarcerated, adolescents under judicial supervision

Six people were indicted wednesday for “Complicity in terrorist assassination” : in addition to Brahim C, the Islamist activist Abdelhakim Sefrioui, two schoolchildren aged 14 and 15 as well as two friends of the assailant, Naïm B. and Azim E. A third relation of the terrorist, Yussuf C., is prosecuted for “Criminal terrorist association”.

The five adults are in pre-trial detention and the two secondary school students aged 14 and 15, accused of having appointed the teacher to the assailant for remuneration, under judicial supervision.

Brahim C and Abdelhackim Sefrioui, 61, are accused of having “Named as a target on social networks the professor of history and geography” by means of a maneuver and a reinterpretation of the facts “, underlined the anti-terrorism prosecutor Jean-François Ricard.

No link with “a radical movement”

Refuting any link of Brahim C with “A radical movement”, Me El Ouchikli regretted that “The personality of (his) client relayed in the media absolutely does not (correspond) to reality”.

“He is a father who has been involved for more than ten years in charitable associations and helping people with reduced mobility”, he stressed.
