Assane Seck University Students Trained in Entrepreneurship for Economic Empowerment

Ziguinchor, Nov 4 (APS) – A total of one hundred students from the Assane Seck University of Ziguinchor (UASZ) were trained in entrepreneurship for three days by the Francophone Employability Center in partnership with “USAID entrepreneurship and investment” .

“Since Thursday, we have started training on entrepreneurship, particularly on the project structuring and financial education modules for the benefit of 100 students from the Assane Seck University of Ziguinchor,” said the head of the French-speaking employability center of the Assane Seck University of Ziguinchor, Gora Lo.

Through this training session which ended on Saturday, he explained, “we want to develop the entrepreneurial spirit of these students and allow them to be able to undertake and benefit from the potential offered by the Ziguinchor region and beyond “.

»We want to enable these students to work to establish small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with the support of the State and partners. We want to awaken what is sleeping in these students,” added Gora Lo.

He indicated that the students benefiting from this training are in master’s and bachelor’s degrees. “There are also doctoral students, outgoing students who have project ideas but who have difficulty structuring them (…),” noted Mr. Lo.

Assane Seck University in Ziguinchor has had a French-speaking employability center since 2022 thanks to the support of the Agence universitaire de la francophonie (AUF).

“This center develops activities in the areas of employability and entrepreneurship,” explained Mr. Lo, indicating that training in the areas of job search techniques, personal development, business plan, among others, were also carried out in this center.

According to capacity building specialist at “USAID Entrepreneurship and Investment”, Arouna Sow, students benefit from support in structuring projects, developing a business plan, tools for good business management, education financial, particularly the budget.

For Serigne Nar Gassama, doctoral student in medicine, “this training is very important and relevant because it allowed the beneficiaries to actually know entrepreneurship in the true sense of the term”.
