Assala Gabon, Addax Petroleum and Morel & Prom, we negotiate around the government

Libreville, Friday December 8, 2023 (Gabon News) – The negotiations started Wednesday in Libreville aim to restore serenity between employees and managers of these oil companies.

We negotiate at Assala Gabon, Addax Petroleum Oil & Gas and Morel & Prom. Employees and managers who looked at each other as fault dogs have been talking to each other again since December 6, 2023 thanks to the dialogue initiated by the Minister of Oil and Gas, Marcel Abeke with his colleague of labor and the fight against unemployment, Solange Nguiakié . These talks aim to both renew ties between the conflicting parties and avoid paralysis of the oil sector, as the oil minister said in his speech.

“We will examine the demands with my work colleague and ensure that the dialogue can continue. It must not be broken. Also, reassure everyone of the continuation of oil activities in general. And the negotiation will continue on Monday,” said Marcel Abeke.

Note that staff representatives have threatened to launch unlimited strikes to demand bonuses and other compensation for the benefit of their union members. At Assala Gabon for example where the assets were sold to Morel and Prom, employees are claiming the good separation bonus before January 2024.

As we can see, the dialogue initiated by the government has apparently calmed things down. However, the trade unionists, who appreciate the initiative, are waiting for concrete results in order to avoid unnecessary strikes. This is the feeling expressed by the secretary general of the National Organization of Petroleum Employees (ONEP).

“We want satisfactory solutions. The strike is not a project, the strike is not a vision. This is the last resort in case we are not satisfied. For now, we think we have started well,” explained Sylvain Mayabi Binet.

The Minister of Labor, for his part, wanted to reassure about the security of jobs in this sector of activity. “Employment is not threatened in this sector,” concluded Solange Nguiakié.
