Asri Welas: Rubella vaccination is an effort to prevent congenital cataracts in children

Babies born with cataracts usually have problems in pregnancy

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Public figure and actress Asri Welas said it’s important for mothers to have rubella vaccination and regular checkups before deciding to get pregnant.

This, Asri said, should be able to minimize disability diseases, such as congenital cataracts and rubella syndrome.

“Babies born with cataracts usually have problems in pregnancy. Therefore, it’s best if you get married before you get the rubella vaccine, so when you’re pregnant you don’t have a tendency to have a baby with (congenital) cataracts, ”Asri said when he met in Jakarta on Thursday.

Additionally, Asri, who has a son with congenital cataracts, shared her story when she found out that her son had vision problems.

He revealed that he found that Ibran, his son, only had cataracts at the age of 3 months. At that time, Asri did not yet know that a baby with cataracts could be seen from inside the womb.

“I only found out (Ibran has cataracts) when he was 3 months old. I checked right away, there was still little information about it at that time, “Asri said.

The “Yang Lost in Love” (2022) series actress also claimed that congenital cataracts can affect children’s growth and development until it’s late enough. For example, delay in speaking, lack of concentration and others.

After the operation, Asri sought references and consulted doctors on next steps to take. So far you have given special glasses to children with congenital cataracts.

“Glasses are necessary for his motor development. Only then could she turn around and see the world. It was done after the operation, the hope is that her five senses can develop properly, “she said.

“So, with these glasses, all gross motor development of children with congenital cataracts can be aided, so that it can help the learning process,” he added.

Asri shared that Ibrahim, now 5 years old, is growing and developing well and full of enthusiasm in the midst of his limits.

“Ibran is late to speak. But progress now is extraordinary,” he said.
