The section of the Camino de Santiago between Molinaseca and Ponferrada just passes the cognitive accessibility assessment carried out by half a dozen users with intellectual disabilities from Asprona Bierzo.

It is about finding out if the signposting and indication of the route of the French way is easy to follow and locate for any type of person with different abilities. Mercedes, one of the Asprona users, recognizes that there are areas where it is difficult to decide where the path continues ‘because there are many indications at the same time and it is difficult not only for our group, but for children and the elderly’ although recognizes that a significant part of the 10-kilometer stretch can be followed with ease.

Using colors, affordable and uniform symbols and all kinds of easy-to-read elements would improve the signage of this international route in an idea, that of cognitive accessibility from which not only people with intellectual disabilities but also children or people would benefit. greater. In fact, explains Bea, one of the participants “could also be applied to other areas such as the addresses of a hospital or the services of a bank when you do not understand them well, it can happen to anyone,” she says.

Asprona Bierzo participates together with four other entities at the national level for the evaluation of the cognitive accessibility of the Camino de Santiago on the French way.
